Names of hans

The inscription plaques of hans never specify the exact name of the han.

Many were named after a nearby natural site, town or village. Some were named in reference to their patron (Hatun, Hekim, Horozlu, Sadeddin, Karatay, Ertokuş) or the color of their building materials (Kizilören, Sari, Ak, Akbaş). Several bear names recalling a natural feature or a local tradition or incident (Incir, Kuruçeşme, Zincirli, Eli-kesik).
