The Seljuk Han of Anatolia
Architects
Although it is estimated that of the 400 surviving Seljuk monuments, 110 have inscriptions with the names of artists and architects. However, these inscriptions are rare for hans. The name of the architect of the han is given with certainty only in 2 cases, and in relatively insignificant constructions:
-Haci Osman ibn Abderahman (Dokuzun Derbent)
-Gevherbaş bin Abdullah (Durağan)
As for the Zazadın Han, it is possible that Sadeddin Köpek, who was himself an architect and Chief of Building Operations for the Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, may have directed the work at the han he commissioned.
We can also infer the names of two other architects from inscription plaques:
Çay: Ogul Bey bin Mehmed (Çay)
Ilgin: Kuluyan al-Qunawi (whose name is also mentioned at the Gök Medrese in Sivas). This han has now disappeared.
